A date has been set for a celebration of life to commemorate the life of a beloved Seattle dog walker, Ruth Dalton.

She died on August 20 after Seattle police said 48-year-old Jahmed Haynes carjacked her in the Madison Valley neighborhood.

Melanie Roberts invites everyone in the community to honor her grandmother on October 20.

The event will take place from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM in Victory Hall across from T-Mobile Park

“Grandma’s story has made the news many times and even spread to other parts of the world. Because the community has become so involved, I want to have a PUBLIC Celebration of Life,” she wrote on Facebook.

“I want to thank EVERYONE for caring for my grandmother, the animals and the community she loved.”

At the time of the carjacking, Dalton had several dogs with him, which managed to escape.

They were all reunited with their owners.

Haynes has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree assault and first-degree animal cruelty. All three charges include a deadly weapon enhancement.

Haynes has an extensive criminal history. Prosecutors say if he is convicted of the murder or assault charges, it would be his third attack and mean he would automatically be sentenced to life in prison.
