After an energetic performance of the cancan, a masked figure running across rooftops and surfaces throughout the city with a torch in his hand briefly stole the show. The figure passed dancers in rags before they burst into a performance of a song by The wretched, a musical that deals with the history of France. The identity of the person wearing the mask has not yet been revealed.
If you’re not watching the Olympics opening ceremony, the main torchbearer is a masked vigilante wearing revolutionary rags in the style of Keens and Les Misérables, who arrived on a boat to the theme of Phantom of the Opera and is now parkouring through Paris to techno. Extremely French

Later, the metal band Gojira gave a performance with quite a few fireworks.

An opera singer took over and performed as a large ship sailed down the Seine. “Sing!” Clarkson shouted.
It’s all part of a segment of the event entitled ‘Liberté’, which is one third of the motto of the French Republic: ‘Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité’.
Translated into English it means: “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.”
