PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — On Sundays in September, residents and visitors to Philadelphia’s Center City neighborhood don’t have to worry about dodging traffic as they stroll, shop and eat.

Starting Sunday, September 8, the streets on 18th Street from Locust to Chestnut and Walnut Street from 15th to 19th Streets will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic thanks to the Center City District’s new “Open Streets: West Walnut” program.

The intersections will remain open at the following intersections:

  • 16th Street
  • 17th Street
  • 19th Street
  • 1700 and 1800 blocks of Sansom Street

Road closures will be in effect on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Open Streets: West Walnut will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to the Center City District, visitors to Center City can enjoy “entertainment during Open Streets, including acoustic musicians, touring artists, dance troupes and more.” There is also a family zone with sidewalk chalk and games and activities for children.
