Chance of rain clouds party

New Yorkers may experience some rain during the fireworks shows on Thursday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 37% chance of rain in Manhattan between 8 p.m. and midnight on July 4. The annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks display is scheduled to begin at 9:25 p.m., with the television broadcast beginning at 8 p.m.

Other meteorologists put the chance of rain even higher. AccuWeather says there is an 80% chance of precipitation that night, while The Weather Channel predicts a 50% chance.

The NWS is expecting mostly cloudy skies with “a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening, then a chance of showers after midnight. Lows in the lower 70s.”

All meteorologists are predicting a relatively humid night, with temperatures in the low 80s to mid 70s. Any rain is expected to continue overnight and into the next morning.

At free public viewing areas for Macy’s explosive show, umbrellas and blankets are on the list of prohibited items, so visitors are advised to be mindful.

Independence Day celebrations should avoid rain, meteorologists say. According to the National Weather Service, there is only a 14% chance of rain from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a 29% chance from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-80s, with AccuWeather predicting a RealFeel temperature of 91 degrees.

The National Weather Service expects it to be “partly sunny with a slight chance of showers in the morning, then mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.”

If the festivities last all weekend, there is a 34%-39% chance of rain during the day on Friday, with a low of 75 degrees Fahrenheit in the morning and a high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The chance of rain is even higher on Saturday, reaching 62% by the afternoon, according to the NWS forecast. Temperatures are expected to remain in the 80s for much of Saturday.
