Chesterfield police are investigating the New Year’s Eve death of a bicyclist on Route 1

CHESTER – Chesterfield police say a bicyclist was killed early Tuesday evening on Route 1 near the intersection with Happy Hill Road in the southern part of the county.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

According to a statement from the Chesterfield Police Department, it happened shortly before 6:45 p.m. in the 16500 block of Route 1. The cyclist, an adult male, was thrown from his bicycle after being struck by a vehicle.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Both directions of Route 1 were closed to traffic while the crash was cleared.
