CHICAGO (CBS) — The ongoing crisis surrounding missing and murdered women and girls of color in Chicago will be the subject of a Chicago City Council committee.
As part of this testimony, organizations will be asking the city Monday morning for more resources for investigations and support for families. The City Council’s Public Safety Committee will discuss the ongoing issue beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The community organization Kenwood-Oakland and GoodKids MadCity Englewood are just a few of the many organizations co-sponsoring this hearing.
Organizers aim to build on years of community engagement and recent progress at the state and local levels to address the issue of missing and murdered women and girls in Chicago, particularly Black and Brown women.
For seven years now, groups have been organizing the “We Walk for Her March,” this year in Bronzeville.
These organizations are now advocating for the creation of an “ebony alert,” which would warn residents when young black women and children go missing.
