Chiefs’ Travis Kelce said he was alerted by the White House Secret Service

We all thought Travis Kelce was joking on Friday when he addressed the nation during the Chiefs’ visit to the White House.

“My fellow Americans, it’s nice to see you all again,” Kelce said. “I’m not going to lie, President Biden. They told me if I came here I would get a bag, so I’m going back to my place.”

Funny stuff, right?

Well… on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Kelce said the Secret Service actually checked in on him before that moment.

When the Chiefs visited the White House in 2023, Kelce tried to sneak a word in from the podium while President Joe Biden’s back was turned. And before that trip to Washington DC, Kelce said his driver’s license had expired three years earlier and he had to get a new one. He even joked about bringing a fake ID.

All of this did not go down well with the secret service.

“That’s real. The Secret Service that’s all over the White House wasn’t that happy with me,” Kelce said. “On my second visit, they weren’t that happy with me. And not just for (making the podium in 2023 ), but for the whole, remember when I talked about how I had an expired ID and ended up in the White House? Yeah, no, that’s what I caught (crap) And I made sure I took care of it beforehand Because of what happened last time and how embarrassed I was about going to the White House with an expired ID, I made sure to bring my passport this time so it would show that I was a citizen of Missouri.

“And yes, and I was official and legitimate, and I did things the right way, because everyone has to do that in the White House. And as I walked in, about four or five Secret Service members came up to me and said, “You know, if you go up to that stage, we have permission to taser you.”

By the way, Kelce now lives in Kansas. But we’re assuming his Missouri license hasn’t expired.

After the interview with the Secret Service, Kelce had no plans to take the stage. It was a spontaneous moment from President Biden.

“So it was all going through my head. I had no idea that President Biden would ask me to step up and give me my moment,” Kelce said. “I had no idea. He walks right up and the first thing he says is, give me the floor. And I felt a Taser pointed at me when I was there the whole time. That’s why I was up there (saying to myself): ‘Don’t make any quick moves. Be cool.'”

A special moment

Kelce talked about what an honor it was to go to the White House with the Chiefs, who received the invitation to win Super Bowl LVIII.

“That was a fun one. It’s always an honor to go to the White House, man,” Kelce said. “I said it last time, every time I have the opportunity to be recognized by the President of the United States and to go to the point with my teammates and a group of men and women with whom I have had success, where we come to be recognized, man, I do it every time, no matter who’s at the helm there. No matter what happens in this world.

“I just think it’s such a cool opportunity. I think as the Chiefs representative there, I wanted to do that for the Hunt family and all of our coaches that went. I wanted to make sure I remembered and had all those photos and memories with me on the couch.”
