Nov. 15 – Two children were injured, one seriously, Friday afternoon in a crash involving a suspected drunk driver on Rodeo Road, police said.
Both children were taken to an area hospital and one was then airlifted to an Albuquerque hospital in “critical but stable” condition, said Thomas Grundler, deputy chief of the Santa Fe Police Department.
According to a police news release, the children are approximately 7 and 9 years old.
Police struggled with Dylan Michael Ortiz Delgado, 36, before arresting him at the scene on suspicion of drunken driving and other charges, Grundler said.
The crash was reported just after 2 p.m. Police say a vehicle carrying one adult and the two children was traveling west on Rodeo Road and attempted to turn right onto Galisteo Road when Delgado, who a witness told police, was driving recklessly and passing vehicles. on the shoulder of the road, hit them. Galisteo meets Rodeo Road near where the New Mexico Rail Runner Express tracks and the Santa Fe Rail Trail Rodeo intersect.
Delgado is charged with driving under the influence causing great bodily harm, reckless driving and attempting to disarm a police officer.
Delgado, who is from Santa Fe, has faced two previous drunken driving charges, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in 2017 and pleaded no contest to the same charge in 2008.
Police noted in the news release that Delgado also faces a slew of traffic violations and two previous arrests for failing to appear in court on traffic cases.
