A child has died days after being shot in a home riddled with bullets, according to South Carolina officials.
Nine-year-old Gregory Robinson Jr. died Wednesday, said Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed Gregory’s death around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Baker said Gregory was shot in his home early Monday morning.
Multiple rounds were fired into the home between West Brewington Road and US 521/Thomas Sumter Highway in Sumter, according to the sheriff’s office.
Around 1:45 a.m. Monday, a deputy heard multiple gunshots and multiple calls were made to 911 to report the shooting, the sheriff’s office said.
Gregory was taken to a hospital by paramedics, according to the sheriff’s office. He was being treated at Prisma Health Richland hospital in Columbia when he died, Baker said.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no mention of a shooter or shooters, or whether Gregory’s home was the intended target. Information on a motive for the shooting was not available.
No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s office, which continues to investigate the death along with the coroner’s office. An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
