Christian Woodstock this Saturday

June 12 – It won’t be on Max Yasgur’s farm, but the spirit of a different kind of Woodstock will be operating just south of Washington this weekend.

The first Christian Woodstock in Daviess County will be held this Saturday.

“We’re living in kind of a dark world right now and we want to be a light to the world,” said organizer Steve Belcher. “It will be held on the grounds of the Free Methodist Church on Troy Road. There will be two phases. It’s rain or shine. If the weather is bad, we simply move inside the church.’

Belcher says the event will start in the morning and last until late in the evening.

“We’re going to start Saturday at 10 a.m. and continue until Saturday night at 11 p.m. with different praise theme performances every hour and different music artists and we’re going to have a lot of fun praising and worshiping God. We’re going to eat a lot of food. Trucks are available and there’s a bouncy house for the kids. It will be a fun event,” he said “We want to get together with people who like different types of worship music. There are contemporary, ancient hymns and other types. We’re going to have them and let people appreciate different styles of worship music and have fun.”

More than a dozen acts are scheduled to perform on the double stages, including many acts that people in the area know.

“We have 13 different groups, including Conner Lovelace. He is from Pike County and just received the Teen Male Gospel Vocalist of the Year in Nashville. Alan Pancake and Leon Rice, who do many of the arrangements for the Promise, will also perform .”

Belcher says the day will be full of activities that will be fun for the whole family, and he notes the price is right.

“There is no admission fee. This is an extension of the Front Porch Music and Arts Festival that we host every year,” Belcher said. “We want this to be open to the public because we want kids to come out and experience the music, the different instruments and the art. This is open to the entire community. It’s free and family friendly. Everyone is welcome.”
