Christmas trees on the beach and development in the sky for Brunswick County

The holidays are here, folks! Another Monday means another Brunswick County event is being wrapped up by reporter Savanna Tenenoff, and this week just so happens to have a little twist for our readers.

If you haven’t walked the beach in windy 90-degree weather, you might have missed a nice surprise. Some families are turning the beach into a tree stand this year. Are you real? That’s right!

Brunswick County residents have really made their voices heard this month on upcoming developments, replacing the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and closing community gates.

I hope your stockings and Christmas trees are up and your stretchy pants are on (again), because Christmas is two days away and 2025 is just a blink of an eye away.

A new 1,800-home development near NC 130 is proposed across the street from a nearly 3,000-home residential and commercial development that was approved earlier this year. At a recent community meeting, neighbors shared their thoughts on the new development.

The agenda

This year is coming to an end. However, the province, the villages and cities remain alert as new plans, policies and people come into play in 2025.

Holden Beach commissioners opted to award a contract to a new architectural firm, HDR Engineering Inc., at their Dec. 17 meeting. from the Carolinas, to review a new plan for the pier. No designs have been created, but we will keep you posted if there is one.

Renee fished a prawn legend from Southport this week. Meet John Potter, “Tookie,” one of the founders of Potter’s Seafood.
