Dec. 23 – A 41-year-old Cincinnati man was charged in the March death of his sister-in-law from Fairfield, who died of a drug overdose.
Auqeith Byner of Michaels Run in Cincinnati faces involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony, and corrupting another with drugs, a second-degree felony, according to Butler County court records filed Dec. 10 and unsealed last week.
Family members found 36-year-old Sherry Geis of Seward Road in Fairfield unresponsive in her bed from an apparent overdose, and paramedics determined she was deceased, police said.
Fairfield Twp was involved in the Fairfield investigation. Police after determining Byner had allegedly sold Geis drugs around the corner from Geis’ Fairfield home at the UDF on Tylersville Road in Fairfield Twp.
According to the Butler County Coroner’s Office, the autopsy revealed that Geis died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl and cocaine.
Byner is in the Kenton County, Kentucky, detention center after being arrested in September on several charges, including a pair of unrelated drug trafficking charges, one related to cocaine and one related to fentanyl. Court records in Kentucky show he is charged with promoting contraband and tampering with evidence.
He also faces a fugitive warrant from another state, although the Kenton County court clerk did not have which state.
Byner has a $100,000 bond on the fugitive warrant and a $50,000 bond on the criminal case out of Covington, Kentucky.
He will appear in court in Kentucky on January 6 and 8 for a pair of status hearings.
Fairfield Twp. Police Sgt. Brandon McCroskey said once Byner can be extradited to Ohio, he will be charged in Butler County Court with two felonies.
