Cities cancel fireworks due to weather; Minneapolis, others wait to decide

Forecasted stormy weather and heavy rain are disrupting Fourth of July festivities in many Minnesota cities.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather forecast for the region, warning residents to exercise caution in traffic and to check the status of local festivities.

Some cities have postponed or canceled celebrations altogether. Here are the celebrations affected so far:

Minneapolis: The city will decide Thursday at 6 p.m. whether all or some of the Red, White and Boom! activities and fireworks show will go ahead. Stay tuned to Parks and Rec’s Facebook page for updates.

Edina: The city says the parade and fireworks will go ahead “rain or shine.” If the weather is hazardous, any cancellations will be posted on the Instagram, Facebook and X accounts.

Eden Prairie: Festivities have been canceled altogether. But tonight’s Sparklefest activities, including a sensory drone light show, are still going ahead, according to a city bulletin.

Eagan: The fireworks for the 4th of July Funfest are still going ahead, according to the event’s website.

Woodbury: The city’s Fourth of July celebration has been canceled.

Maplewood: Light it Up All festivities in Maplewood have been cancelled.

Richfield: So far, the city’s 4th of July display at Veterans Park is ongoing. Check the website for updates.

St. Louis Park: The city has set a rainy date for Friday for the festivities and fireworks show in Aquila Park. Call 952-924-2567 to see if the fireworks are on.

Coon Rapids: The city will decide Thursday whether to cancel fireworks. Check the website.

Chanhassen: The fireworks display at Lake Ann Park has been moved to Friday, July 12 at 10 p.m.

Chaska: The fireworks have been canceled, but the city promises “an even bigger and better show” during the Fire & Ice Festival the following weekend.

White Bear Lake: The city has set Friday as a backup day for fireworks. Check the Facebook page for a decision on Thursday.

Mankato: The city’s “Red, Hot & Boom” show has been moved to 10 p.m. on Friday. The show will be viewed from the Minnesota State University athletic fields at 191 Stadium Road.
