City of Concord Gives Away Free Trees to Homeowners

The city of Concord is giving away 300 free trees to area homeowners.

City officials say the gesture is intended to support a healthy tree canopy and help homeowners save money on their energy bills.

It is the first municipality in North Carolina to join the Energy Saving Trees program, and has been participating for six years.

Homeowners can reserve their trees online. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Residents can choose from a variety of tree species, including red maples, plane trees, currant trees, swamp cypress trees, willow oaks, tulip trees and sourwood trees.

They can be picked up from All Saints’ Episcopal Church on October 19th between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Master Gardeners will be on hand at the pick-up location to teach homeowners proper planting techniques and answer questions about tree care.
