Clarke County man sentenced to 30 years in prison for ‘heinous crime’ against child

An Athens man will spend the next 30 years in prison after being found guilty of the sexual exploitation of a 7-year-old child as a result of a Project Safe Childhood investigation.

Chris Adam Valentine, 37, faces a lifetime of supervised release and $90,000 in restitution upon his release from prison. Valentine must also register as a sex offender.

“Our office is committed to identifying and removing child predators from our communities and holding them fully accountable for their heinous crimes,” said U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary. “Protecting the most vulnerable citizens from harm is a priority for law enforcement at every level.”

In a signed plea agreement, Valentine admitted that between Jan. 1, 2022, and Dec. 31, 2022, he used his phone to film a 7-year-old child engaging in sexual conduct with an adult man, officials said.

“Cases like these illustrate the value of partnerships between local, state and federal agencies,” said Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Jerry Saulters. “These heinous crimes will not be tolerated in our community. We will continue to work with our partners to protect the children of this community and prosecute those who prey on them.”
