PLYMOUTH, Minn. – Lessons at Armstrong High School in Plymouth were moved online for nearly all students Thursday as Robbinsdale Area Schools and the Plymouth Police Department investigate a hallway fight that left students held in place for hours the day before.

The fight, captured on cellphone video by a student, prompted a significant police response, the department says. In addition to the two school officers already at the school, Plymouth police say it sent an additional eight officers to help break up the fight.

“An incident of this magnitude where multiple police officers had to respond to a school for a fight, I can’t think of more than one other time in the last three to four years that this has happened,” Plymouth Police Chief Erik said. To disappear. “It’s extremely rare. It just doesn’t happen.”

No one was taken into custody, Fadden said. Still, an investigation into the fight and the students responsible forced the district to switch to online learning for most students on Thursday.

The decision was made “due to the severity of the incident,” Armstrong director Erick Norby wrote in a letter to families.

“I’m just surprised,” parent Sean Mahabidi said Thursday. “Why did they have to close the whole school the next day?”

Mahabidi and other parents who spoke to WCCO off camera say they feel in the dark about the situation. In Norby’s letter to parents, he indicated that he could not identify the students involved due to privacy protocol.

“Since you don’t know any more information than the email, it’s just a guess,” Mahabidi said.
