Cleveland County man found dead in his jail cell

Timothy Bever

A man serving 17 years in prison for a common criminal conviction in Cleveland County committed suicide Saturday, according to a news release from the N.C. Department of Public Safety.

Timothy W. Beaver was found unconscious in his cell at Nash Correctional Institution around 7 a.m.

Prison medical staff attempted to revive Beaver, but the 43-year-old was pronounced dead at 7:25 a.m.

Local law enforcement agencies and the NC Office of Chief Medical Examiner have been notified and are investigating as required in these circumstances. Saturday’s news release stated that Beaver’s death was an apparent suicide.

Beaver was convicted in Cleveland County in 2011 and was scheduled to be released in September 2025. His most recent convictions that led to the usual criminal convictions were for possession of stolen property, theft and burglary.
