Clothing drives, toy drops and other charity events around Philadelphia

The holidays are a time of giving, and many local organizations are helping the community with your help.

CBS Philadelphia, The Salvation Army and Mothers in Charge collaborate on annual Joy of Sharing toy drivebut if you want to give something other than toys this season, there are plenty of other groups doing good work and who could use your help.

Here’s a quick look at some coat drives and other charity events in the Philadelphia region.

Coat drives in the Philadelphia area

Philadelphia Black Basketball Hall of Fame jacket ride

A Philly nonprofit is working to keep kids warm during these cold winter months, and now you can help. The Philadelphia Black Basketball Hall of Fame collects new or gently used winter jackets for children of all ages. It’s part of their We Care About Our Youth Winter Coat Drive. You can drop off a coat at one of the five collection points. The organization is collecting coats all month long through January 20, Martin Luther King Junior Day of Service.

Car dealers CARing for Kids Foundation coat drive

The Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation is collecting 50,000 new coats for children in the 17th annual Driving Away the Cold New Coat program.

Nearly 180 car dealers in the Greater Philadelphia region are participating. For more information, text the word “Coat” to 44321 or send money to morethanautodealers.com.

Food drives in the Philadelphia region

Share food program in Philadelphia

You can donate to the Share Food Program any season to help feed families in Philadelphia at Sharefoodprogram.org.

Project house

Project HOME is collecting clothing, cookies, gift cards and monetary donations for various donation drives this holiday season.

You can donate $30 Target and VISA gift cards to benefit Project HOME residents, donate cash to fund holiday meals, or donate cookies to safe havens throughout the city of Philadelphia.

Toy drives in the Philadelphia area

Guadalupe Family Services, Camden, NJ

Guadalupe Family Services in Camden, New Jersey is asking for sponsors of “Santa’s Helpers” who can purchase gifts for a family in need this Christmas. Fill out the form on the agency’s website and the organization can put you in touch with a family in need. You will receive a wish list with a child’s name, clothing sizes, gift ideas and favorite color.

The agency asks that gifts be dropped off by December 16 at 5 p.m. More details can be found at the link above at GuadalupeFamilyServices.org. GFS’s address is 509 State Street, Camden New Jersey.

Burlington County, New Jersey toy drive

The county’s last toy drive is Saturday, Dec. 14 at Spellbound Brewing in Mount Holly from 6 to 9 p.m. Bring an unwrapped gift and get a drink in return! Spellbound is located at 10 Lippincott Lane, Mount Holly, New Jersey.

Salvation Army Kroc Center Gift of Hope toy drive

More than 3,000 children will receive toys this Christmas through The Salvation Army Camden Croc Center’s The Gift of Hope toy drive.

You can donate money online on the website, or purchase toys through their Walmart and Amazon wish lists. Find all these links here on the SalvationArmy.org website.
