Grab the sunglasses and extra layers for Thursday. It will be seasonally cool in the mid 40s and mostly sunny.
Clouds will increase late in the day ahead of the next storm, which will arrive Friday evening and Friday night.
This storm will bring a chance of rain showers in the area with possible snow showers north and west of the city. If temperatures cool quickly enough, a brief snowfall could occur in Bucks and Burlington counties. Highs on Friday will be in the low 40s.
After Friday’s storm, the coldest air on record will arrive in a bitter blast with highs in the low 30s on Saturday and mid to low 20s on Sunday. The sky will be mostly sunny on both days. Overnight lows this weekend will be in the teens, with lows Monday morning between 10 and 12 degrees in the city.
If you’re going to Washington, DC for the Eagles game, bring heavier winter gear. Despite the sunshine, highs will hover around or below freezing at kickoff, with a breeze making it feel like teens and twenties.
The deep freeze will continue on Monday under sunny skies. By Christmas Eve on Tuesday, temperatures will climb back into the low 40s. There is also a chance of rain showers on Tuesday as a clipper system passes through the region. There are still questions about the track with this storm and if enough cold air remains, some snow showers or a mix of these could fall north and west of the city.
At this point, it would take a Christmas miracle for one white christmas. The National Weather Service’s official definition of a white Christmas is one inch or more of snow on the ground Christmas morning. It doesn’t even have to snow at Christmas. The last time Philly had a white Christmas was in 2009.
Skies will be partly cloudy on Wednesday on Christmas Day with highs around 40 degrees and a chance of showers in the evening. Hanukkah starts Wednesday evening with seasonal temperatures near freezing.
For Kwanza, skies will be mostly cloudy on December 26 with highs in the low to mid 40s.
