Cold weather sets in for the NYC region, with snow forecast this week

NEW YORK– New York is facing some cold weather this weektogether with a little snowif you can believe it.

You will feel it outside on Monday with temperatures around 20 and 30 degrees. Wear multiple layers – winter coats, hats, gloves and scarves – especially if you’ll be outside for long periods of time.

The maximum temperature will be around 39 degrees, which will feel more like January than December, that’s for sure.

Luckily you don’t need rain gear, but the wind can sometimes reach 35 km/h, so it doesn’t feel any better than maybe 35 or so. Some chills, unfortunately, aren’t from the 20s.

Looking ahead, snow and rain showers will enter our area from Wednesday night into Thursday, with the air being sufficiently cold.

The problem we see is that we’re going to have to compete with some warmer air, so a lot of this could end up being a wintry mix for the city. Needless to say, the models are still a bit up in the air, right up to the rain/snow line.

We keep an eye on that, but behind that system we also have to keep an eye on the wind. It looks like Thursday will be a windy day any way you look at it, but it’s possible we’ll break the advisory threshold for winds of around 75 mph.

All the while, the cold will persist, with temperatures likely to get even colder as we close out the week.
