Jordan Blake Ramey, 22, a Brevard College football player, was shot early Wednesday in downtown Hickory, officials said.

Police officers were called to the area of ​​Second Street NW and Main Avenue NW shortly after 2 a.m., where they found Ramey, of Yadkinville, who had been shot.

Paramedics took Ramey to Frye Regional Medical Center and he was later transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem.

He is in a stable condition.

Javier Hampton Trevino Jr., of Lenoir, faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder, police said.

Police said Trevino was involved in an incident with another group nearby when he fired shots at Ramey.

Ramey did not know the suspect and was not involved in the first incident, Hickory police said.

Trevino was arrested Thursday.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Trevino was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

He remains in the Catawba County Justice Center without bond.
