Washington Commanders defensive tackle Jonathan Allen suffered a season-ending pectoral laceration surgery will be required.

Head coach Dan Quinn announced the injury during a call with reporters on Monday.

“We really feel bad for him,” Quinn told the Washington Post. … “We will certainly miss him this season, and he will likely undergo surgery in the coming days.”

Allen suffered the injury on Sunday during the 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Allen, an eight-year NFL veteran, has played his entire career with the Commanders since Washington selected him in 2017 with a first-round draft pick out of Alabama. He has been a standout and a steady presence on Washington’s defensive line since joining the league. He appeared in at least 15 games in each of the past six seasons and made the Pro Bowl following the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

The injury is a major blow to a Commanders team that is having its best season in years, thanks in large part to the play of standout rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Washington is 4-2 after Sunday’s loss and sits alone atop the NFC East standings.

Allen has started all six of Washington’s games this season, totaling 15 tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss and six quarterback hits. He has recorded at least 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and 17 quarterback hits in each of the last three seasons.
