Nov. 13—CONNEAUT — Angelina Vazquez has been the new clerk of the city’s Municipal Court for nearly four months.
Vazquez has worked in Municipal Court for many years, having previously worked as a clerk at Conneaut.
She oversees the paperwork, finances of the court and the civil, criminal and traffic clerks.
Vazquez worked for Huntington Bank before being hired by the municipal court.
“I really was [good] with numbers at the bank,” she said. “The paperwork and grades aspect helped me when they decided to offer me the civil clerk job.”
Vazquez said her family moved to Conneaut from California when she was a child.
“I 100% believe I am a Conneaut kid,” she said. “I’m very involved in our community and I love all the people who live in this city. I think Conneaut is a great place to be.”
Vazquez said she didn’t mind the challenge of taking the clerk job.
“Everything I do at the end of the day is a reflection on the judge and on the court in general and on our city,” she said. “I want to be absolutely sure I get things done right.”
Vazquez said she wants the court to proceed as smoothly as possible.
“If you need me to help you, I should be able to help you with your thing,” she said.
Vazquez said she came to the municipal court to help people.
“Every person who comes to that window deserves respect from beginning to end,” she said. “You can kill someone with your kindness. You can treat someone better than probably even how they think they deserve to be treated.”
Vazquez said her interest in helping people extends to working with Conneaut Municipal Court Judge Nicholas Iarocci on the Renewal Court program.
Vazquez said the program focuses on treating people with substance and mental health issues.
“Rather than just putting them back into the system and repeating and repeating themselves, he will then put them in front of a renewal court and try to give them leadership,” she said.
Vazquez said her interest in helping people comes from knowing family who have dealt with substantive issues.
“If people I knew in my family had had an opportunity to participate in a program like that and try to get something more out of themselves, and a chance to get better, that would have been great,” she said.
Vazquez said the clerk is supportive of her family.
“I don’t plan on going anywhere while my kids are in school here,” she said.
