PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A grocery store clerk was stabbed during a robbery in Center City Friday night, Philadelphia police said.
Police responded to the convenience store at 100 North Broad Street on Friday night around 11 p.m. for a report of a robbery. According to authorities, SEPTA police found a man stabbed in the arm.
According to preliminary police investigation, the suspect entered the supermarket and showed a box cutter, demanding that an employee open the cash register.
After the suspect, according to police, took an undisclosed amount of money and tried to run away, another store employee confronted him. The suspect then allegedly stabbed the employee twice in the arm and ran away, police said.
According to police, the supermarket employee was taken to Jefferson Hospital in critical condition.
A suspect matching the description of the man involved in the robbery and stabbing was later found by SEPTA police underground at 1500 Market Street.
Police said the suspect has been identified and updates will follow after charges are finalized.
