Another sunny and warm Sunday was put in the books, with highs in the 70s for many areas in the Philadelphia region, along with light winds. A few showers and rumbles will move along a fast-moving cold front tonight. This system actually produced severe storms in western Pennsylvania, but severe weather is not likely overnight as the rain and storms decrease in intensity.
Skies will then clear early Monday morning giving way to more sunshine as cooler air moves into the area from the northwest. The wind will probably blow between 10 and 20 km/h in the afternoon.
Then we welcome next week into a brisk and cool pattern, with highs only in the 60s and morning lows in the 40s.
Speaking of the 40s, the average first occurrence of lows in the 40s in Philly is September 30th. We are behind schedule, but nowhere near the record of the last first time, which was October 20.
The overnight lows this week will be the coolest we’ve seen so far this season.
In the tropics we now have Hurricane Milton, which will continue to develop and strengthen over the very warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, likely becoming a MAJOR Category 3 or even Category 4 storm by Wednesday.
With its northeasterly track, Florida’s west coast should brace for another major hurricane, with winds likely to exceed 140 miles per hour, with widespread rainfall of 6 to 8 inches, in addition to flooding from storm surge. Areas from the Panhandle to Tampa and even the Keys need to be on high alert as we monitor this serious threat.
As always, the NEXT Weather Team will stay ahead of the storm for you and your family and warn you of potential impacts.
