Could Philadelphia’s heat wave bring us record high temperatures? Latest weather forecast

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – What a way to end the spring season and welcome summer. The Philadelphia region is now in the third day of a heat wave that started Monday and began building Tuesday.

This hot weather won’t end until the weekend and we’ve been issuing NEXT Weather Alert Days all week and into the weekend to warn you about this heat.

We already had our warmest day of 2024 on Tuesday, when the mercury reached 91 degrees.

There is also a heat advisory for our entire coverage area until 6 a.m. on Friday. And an excessive heat warning, signaling potential wind chills of up to 45 degrees, will come into effect at 6pm on Friday and continue until 8pm on Sunday.

Cumberland, Atlantic and Cape May counties in New Jersey and Kent County in Delaware were left out of these warnings.

Sensitive temperatures in Philadelphia on June 19

We started Wednesday, the last full day of spring, with overnight lows in the 60s and 70s around the Philadelphia area. The normal high for this time of year is 84 degrees.

It should feel like 76 degrees in Philadelphia by 7 a.m., with the wind chill rising into the 80s by 10 a.m. By 1 p.m. you’ll have wind chills into the 90s – peaking at a wind chill of 95 around 4 p.m. Thursday is largely the same story, with a chance of being a bit warmer during the day than Wednesday.

If you want to exercise or run errands, your best times are before 10 a.m. and after 7 p.m. — you can get ahead of the hottest part of the day or wait until the worst is over. No matter what, when it’s hot and you’re outside, you want to drink plenty of fluids and listen to your body. Is the heat wave in Philadelphia breaking records? What are the temperature records for June 19, 20 and 21 in Philadelphia?

Although this heat has led to warnings, we do not expect many temperature records to be broken due to this heat. The temperature reached 91 degrees on Tuesday, but the record was 96 degrees set in 1957. On Wednesday we will (fortunately) not reach the record high of 100 degrees set on June 19, 1994.

On Thursday we will likely be a few degrees below the record high of 98 degrees set on June 20, 1931. We are starting very close to breaking a record on Friday, June 21, with a forecast high of 98 degrees and a record high of 99 degrees (dating back to 1923).

Our next possible shot at a record high is Sunday, June 23, with a forecast high of 99 degrees and a record high of 97 dating back to 1888.
