Couple charged with attempted murder in Tuesday’s shooting outside Chimayó

November 6 – A man and a woman face charges including attempted murder after a man was shot outside Chimayó early Tuesday morning.

The victim was taking the accused couple for a ride sometime after midnight Tuesday when he stopped his truck on Juan Medina Road in Santa Fe County and was shot at least three times, investigators allege in the charging documents, based on witness statements.

In addition to attempted murder, Justin Harris, 34, and Delila Harris, 32, each face two counts of aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit murder, false imprisonment and concealment of identity, according to criminal complaints filed Wednesday with the Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.

Delila Harris was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Santa Fe County Jail, and Justin Harris was arrested and booked early Wednesday, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Witnesses told sheriff’s deputies that Justin Harris pulled out a gun and shot the victim once in the abdomen while he was in the truck, and then both men got out of the truck and Harris shot him two or more times in the head, the complaint said. . The shooting victim had agreed to give the couple a ride to their residence in Cundiyó — a small community in Santa Fe County — witnesses said, but his pickup had mechanical problems along the way.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He was conscious and able to talk to investigators Tuesday, officers said.
