Undeterred by the upheaval of moving their household, Larry and Linda Ladove have owned several homes in various locations over the years.
Hailing from Fort Lauderdale and moving to Palm Beach in 1994, they restored a landmark home on Via Bellaria in the Estate Section and built a home in the North End on Caribbean Road while enjoying another home in Maine.
After selling those properties, they headed to California, where they lived in Pebble Beach, Carmel, San Diego and Rancho Santa Fe over the course of 15 years before selling their homes there. In 2019, they moved back to Palm Beach and purchased an oceanfront condominium. The Reef, a Grade II listed building in contemporary style on the South End.
“We thought we would split our time (between both coasts), but then it came time to not be California residents,” said Larry Ladove, a retired business executive who owned Miami-based Ladove Inc., a marketing and production company. company.
“So we bought our unit at The Reef. Palm Beach is our home and we have so many friends here. When we returned, it was as if we had never left. For us this is a beautiful place.”
But they are on their way again.
And that means saying goodbye to condo No. 307/308S at 2275 S. Ocean Blvd., a combination condo with three bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms and 4,720 square feet of indoor and outdoor living space. The Ladoves double unit comes with a cabana and garage parking for two cars, with additional parking for guests.
The $6.299 million apartment is shared with their daughter, Officer Alexandra Ladove, and Officer Ashley Copeland, both of Brown Harris Stevens. The furniture can be purchased separately.
Ladove explains why he and his wife are selling: In addition to their condominium, the couple has two properties in West Palm Beach and an oceanfront home on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
“We’re spending more and more time in the Bahamas,” he says. “It’s on the ocean with my boat right outside my door. We use our house in West Palm Beach – it’s on the lake – and our daughter lives with us at 2 City Place. Four spaces is just too many.”
But the move will be bittersweet. The Ladoves have enjoyed the single-family feel of their apartment and they like The Reef, which has fewer than 80 units in its three buildings.
“Our (apartment) is decorated like a house,” he says. “The reef is very ’boutique’ and small. Our condominium is located in the south building, which has only three floors, and we are located on the top floor, where there are only three double units. So not many people live in our building.”
The Ladoves apartment offers ocean views from all rooms. It is located in the southeast corner of the building and has a wrap-around balcony.
The couple renovated thoroughly. “It was already spectacular as it was, but it’s even more spectacular now. We removed a wainscoting (exterior) wall along the south side (of the unit) to open up the view,” Ladove explains.
Pedestrian traffic flows east from the foyer into the living room. South of the foyer are the rotunda-style dining room and breakfast room, both adjacent to the library/family room. There are wet bars in the living room and breakfast area.
In the southeast corner, the master bedroom suite consists of two walk-in closets and two onyx-decorated bathrooms. The western part of the layout houses the kitchen, laundry room and two guest bedrooms with private bathrooms
The Ladoves have refinished the plantation shutters on the windows and doors, and some rooms feature paneled walls and built-in cabinetry. Other details include coffered ceilings, wood paneling and hardwood floors in the main areas.
The island-style kitchen features stone flooring, Shaker-style cabinetry, striking white and blue granite countertops and new high-end stainless steel appliances.
The couple’s other improvements included installing hurricane-resistant windows and doors throughout.
The Reef, built in 1973 and granted monument status in 2019, was designed by the late architect Eugene Lawrence with 78 apartments. The complex is adjacent to the tennis courts of Phipps Ocean Park.
Amenities at the pet-friendly complex include an oceanfront pool, fitness room, card room, BBQ area, beach access and an option for residents to purchase poolside cabanas as they become available. Services include door staff and a full-time on-site manager.
While scaling back is the right move for the couple, Ladove says he and his wife will miss the ocean views.
“It’s a beautiful, beautiful beach. No one lives above us and the southeast location is difficult to find. The views and the sunrises are almost spiritual,” he says. “It’s just incredible – I can lie in my bed and have a cup of coffee and watch God raise the sun and give us a new day.”
