Crews are searching for victims of a two-day-old crash along Deer Creek Road near Malibu

Rescue crews searched Monday evening for victims of a two-day-old crash along a windy road near Malibu.

The Ventura County Fire Department said in a social media post that it was part of a team searching a crash site on Deer Creek Road, which winds inland from the Pacific Coast Highway along mountainous terrain with switchbacks and steep grades. The agency also shared a thermal image of an overturned vehicle along an embankment.

The technical rescue began around 4:15 p.m. after the driver contacted authorities about Saturday’s crash. No 911 was called Saturday, according to the agency’s social media post.

The driver was able to get out of the vehicle at the time and go for a ride, but said Monday that two passengers were still inside.

Around 7:30 p.m., the county fire department reported that one of the passengers had been found at home, but the second passenger had not been located.

Firefighter Andy VanSciver said that although the agency was involved, he had few additional details.

The agency spokesman said the province’s helicopters and drones participated in the search. He did not know where the vehicle was located along Deer Creek Road or what type of vehicle it was. VanSciver had no information about the driver.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, part of the search team, also had little more to add and directed questions to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP, also part of the search, was not immediately available for comment.
