Firefighters have halted the progress of a grass fire in Napa County near Wragg Canyon Road and State Highway 128, fire officials said Thursday evening.

Cal Fire first reported the incident, which was initially called the Wragg Fire before authorities changed the name to Cove Fire, around 3 p.m. Although it spread slowly, crews called in air support to create fire retardant drops.

The Cove Fire scorched nearly three acres and was 65 percent contained, Cal Fire said around 5:30 p.m.

At one point, crews thought the fire had grown to five acres, but the estimates were wrong.

Crews will remain to extinguish hot spots and bring the fire fully under control. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the area.
