Cruiser cam shows police chasing 2 stolen vehicles, arresting 15-year-old

Police have released camera footage of a two-vehicle chase that occurred when one of the cars, driven by a 15-year-old boy armed with a gun, drove off the ramp to I-75 North near Austin Landing.

As reported on Thursday News Center 7 at 11 amClearcreek Township police have arrested the teen, who police say is part of a group that has been stealing cars in recent months.

Police also released Ring camera footage showing the suspect getting out of a white Kia coupe in front of a home, while a black Honda Acura SUV was parked in the garage.

The assailant pointed a gun at the victims as he backed the stolen SUV out of the driveway. The chase began when the Kia and the stolen SUV sped past a police car.

That all happened on September 13th.

According to the police, the group of thieves are between 15 and 18 years old and are actively looking for people in the area who they believe are easy victims.

Dayton resident Anthony Kinney says his daughter’s car was stolen from their driveway in the middle of the night about a month ago.

“It’s sad. It’s sad,” he said. “It’s really sad.”

“They’re coming into this area,” said Lt. Wally Stacy of the Clearcreek Township Police Department. “They’re looking for garage doors that are open at night and even during the day. They’re looking for open garage doors. They think these are easy targets.”

Sept. 13 was the first time the thieves, believed to be part of the larger group, took a car in broad daylight, Stacy said, which “is a concern for us.”

Stacy said police “strongly encourage people to remove their keys, key fobs and valuables from their cars and to lock their garage doors at night.”

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office released a statement warning “that in some cases the stolen vehicles have been used to commit violent crimes.”

The driver of the Kia was arrested on suspicion of a crime after running from the driveway.

Police found the SUV 25 minutes away from the home where it was stolen, but the driver was missing.
