Classes will be held remotely at Cal State Los Angeles on Thursday, June 13, after pro-Palestinian protesters caused damage to the Student Services Building overnight.
An unknown number of people built a barricade around the building on Wednesday, causing some people to enter and some others to chain themselves outside the main entrance.

SkyCAL flew over the scene Wednesday evening and saw protesters rolling copy machines in front of the building’s entrance. Protesters also took large furniture, office electronics and other equipment from the building.
The windows on the first floor of the building were also sprayed with pro-Palestinian graffiti.

It is unclear how many people were involved in the protest. The group also set up barricades in the plaza outside the building’s entrance. There were no immediate signs of an escalating police presence.
The university sent an alert to students and staff, urging everyone in the building to take shelter and lock their doors, while others were told to avoid the area and leave campus.

On social media, protesters said university President Berenecea Johnson Eanes “continues to dance around and suppress our divestment demands,” referring to calls for the university to halt any funding or financial support to companies linked to Israel.
“We have been waiting for a response to our demands for 18 days,” the group said. “There is no time left as families are slaughtered by American imperialism with every passing minute.”
Eanes’ office is located in the Student Services Building, but it was unclear whether she was in her office when the occupation began.
