CT man gets $1M bail in fatal hit-and-run; police follow car

A Connecticut man has turned himself in on manslaughter and other charges in connection with a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian in May.

Trae Pratt, 21, of Waterbury, is charged with evading responsibility in a fatal accident, second-degree manslaughter, misconduct with a motor vehicle, reckless driving and failure to have lights and devices on, Waterbury police said.

He was being held Thursday on $1 million bail, pending an arraignment Friday in Waterbury District Court.

Pratt is charged in connection with a May 18 crash that killed 46-year-old Waterbury resident Dwayne Hunter, police said. Officers responded to a report of the crash at 2:12 a.m. near 62 Chase Ave., where they found Hunter lying in the roadway. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he died, police said.

Police were unable to immediately locate the vehicle involved because the driver had fled the scene.

A few days after the crash, police reported that they had discovered that the vehicle was a four-door Honda Accord, manufactured between 2003 and 2007. The car had possible front-end damage and the driver’s side mirror was missing.

Police said Pratt was later identified as the alleged driver, and investigators obtained an arrest warrant for him charging him in the crash.

The accident was investigated by the police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
