The Indiana Department of Natural Resources invites the public to cut and remove certain fallen trees in Turkey Run and Shades state parks for firewood.
Trees eligible for firewood have fallen due to natural causes or have been felled by property staff. They are located along roadsides or in public areas such as campsites and picnic areas.
Sales and permit curtailments are underway now and will end on February 28.
The cost for one pickup load is $10. A load is defined as a standard 8-foot pickup bed without any modifications, including sideboards. Additional charges will apply for larger truck and trailer loads. All proceeds will be used for resource management and restoration efforts in the parks, including replacing trees in campgrounds and other public areas.
A firewood permit must be obtained for each load at the Turkey Run office, Nature Center or entrance gate between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM
Permits are not available on public holidays. Wood may be cut and removed daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. For more information, please call 765-597-2635.
Firewood harvested at Turkey Run of Shades State Parks is for personal use only.
