Dallas police officer killed, two others injured in ‘premeditated’ shooting

A man fatally shot a police officer and wounded two others in Dallas on Thursday night, in what police said was a premeditated shooting.

Corey Cobb-Bey, 30, was fatally shot after confronting pursuing officers with a shotgun following the shooting, police said Friday.

The incident began shortly after 10 p.m. local time when Cobb-Bey pulled into the parking lot of a community organization in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, police said.

A few minutes later, Officer Darron Burks pulled up to the location between calls and Cobb-Bey approached him and spoke to him through the driver’s side window. Cobb-Bey recorded the encounter on a cell phone, police said.

Cobb-Bey then pulled out a gun and fatally shot Burks, police said.

A police dispatcher noticed an unusual transmission from Burks’ radio. After unsuccessfully trying to contact him, the dispatcher sent officers to check on Burks, police said.

While this was happening, Cobb-Bey grabbed a shotgun from his vehicle and placed it on the roof of Burks’ police car, police said.

At 10:11 p.m., Corporal Jamie Farmer pulled into the parking lot and was immediately confronted by gunfire from Cobb-Bey’s gun, police said.

Farmer returned fire and began to run. Cobb-Bey fired the shotgun, hitting Farmer in the leg, police said.

Sr. Cpl. Karissa David arrived a minute later and parked her police car at the entrance to the parking lot. Cobb-Bey ran toward David and shot her multiple times as she exited the vehicle, police said.

According to police, David returned fire and was shot in the face.

Cobb-Bey fled north on Interstate 35 and was pursued by officers when he stopped near Highway 121 in Lewisville, a city about 30 miles north of Dallas, police said.

Cobb-Bey got out of the vehicle with the shotgun in one hand and walked toward the officers, pointing the weapon at them. Six officers fired their weapons, striking him multiple times and killing him, police said.

Farmer was treated and released from the hospital on Friday. David remains in critical but stable condition, police said.

No officers were injured in the latest shooting.

According to police, the shooting appears to have been premeditated. Detectives found evidence on social media.

According to police, a .22-caliber pistol and a 9mm pistol were also seized from the suspect.

The Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Division and the Dallas County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the case.
