Nov. 6—BEMIDJI — The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is offering $4.68 million through the latest round of the Main Street Economic Revitalization Program.
Organizations eligible to submit proposals for the grant funding, as partner organizations, include foundations engaged in economic development, community development financial institutions and nonprofits engaged in housing and commercial development, according to a news release.
Chosen partner organizations will use the awarded grant funds to establish financing programs that provide assistance to eligible recipients and projects that support community and economic development within one or more defined commercial corridors or Main Street districts.
Once approved, community businesses and organizations that qualify for funding from these partner organizations can use these awards for property repair or renovation, building construction, landscaping and street design, demolition and site preparation, pre-design and design , engineering, non-government-owned infrastructure and related site facilities, the release explained.
“Our Main Streets are important local and regional economic growth engines,” DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek said in the release. “Grants and loans from previous rounds of the Main Street Economic Revitalization Program have helped create jobs and stimulate investment in key commercial corridors in Minnesota.”
According to the release, more than 600 individual projects were approved with $696 million in matching funds during previous rounds of the program.
The Northwest Minnesota Foundation
received more than $2 million in funding
from the program that will be distributed to companies in the region in 2022.
The registration deadline is Friday, November 22, 4:00 PM. DEED will select and announce the partner organizations in January 2025.
