Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen has won reelection in Nevada, NBC News projects, defeating Republican Sam Brown and retaining a key seat for her party in a swing state.
The victory gives first-term Rosen another six years in the Senate, continuing Democrats’ winning streak in a state that has become increasingly competitive at the federal level.
Although polls showed a tight presidential race in Nevada, which President-elect Donald Trump ultimately won, the battle in the Senate was different: Rosen had taken a lead in the final few months of the race, while Republicans feared they were slipping away while they were being released over the air.
Although the margins are often small, Republicans have not won a Senate race in Nevada since 2012.
Democrats focused their attacks on Brown on abortion, even though he said he would not support a federal ban. His wife Amy also revealed in an interview with NBC News that she had an abortion before meeting Brown.
Both candidates fought over inflation and ways to lower costs in the blue-collar state, which is heavily focused on Las Vegas’ service economy. In addition to abortion rights, Rosen emphasized the fight against gun violence, while Brown focused on stricter immigration laws and supported police.
