As the political season continues, a new candidate arrives in Wilmington.
Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz will host a rally in Port City on Thursday, where he will campaign for him and running mate Kamala Harris.
It comes a week after Wilmington saw Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance hold a rally at the Aero Center.
According to a press release from the Harris-Walz campaign, the Minnesota governor is expected to arrive at Wilmington International Airport at 5:30 p.m. and deliver a speech at 6 p.m. It is unknown as of Monday evening whether Walz will speak at the airport or another location.
Walz’s Thursday schedule includes stops in Durham and Greenville before arriving in New Hanover County.
Wilmington has seen several national figures in the race for the White House this year.
In May, President Joe Biden spoke at the Wilmington Convention Center about access to clean water and jobs.
Days before Biden dropped out of the race, First Lady Jill Biden campaigned for her husband at Hi-Wire Brewing. Harris’ husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, delivered remarks at Casa Blanca Roasters on Market Street in September.
Former president and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has held two rallies at the Aero Center, missing the first in April due to bad weather but making the second rally in September.
A day after Vance’s rally, another former president, Bill Clinton, spoke Friday at Prost Biergarten in downtown Wilmington.
