MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Democrats and Republicans in Wisconsin selected new presidential electors Tuesday, nearly four years after state Republicans posed as fake electors for former President Donald Trump.
The Democratic and Republican legislative caucuses and legislative candidates met at the Capitol to select 10 people from each party to represent voters in the presidential election. The winner of the popular vote in each state determines which party’s electors will be sent to the Electoral College, which meets after the December election to determine the outcome.
Ten Wisconsin Republicans posed as fake voters for Trump in 2020 and falsely filed paperwork claiming he won the battleground state. The Democrats filed a lawsuit against them in 2022. Republicans ultimately agreed to a settlement last year that called for them to admit they tried to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory, acknowledge that Biden won the state and agree never to run as presidential electors in 2024 serve. every other election involving Trump.
2024 Republican voters include Fond Du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney, Republican Party state Chairman Brian Schimming and former Gov. Tommy Thompson.
Democratic voters include Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez.
