Des Moines Police Identify 21-Year-Old Man Killed in Shooting Sunday

Des Moines police identified the man killed in a shooting Sunday as 21-year-old Tariq Reynolds.

Martavius ​​Lamon Green, 19, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Reynold’s death, which occurred in a southside neighborhood of the city, police said in a news release.

The press release states that Green was a guest at a home at 3400 S. Union St. when he became involved in an argument. “The argument became physical and the 21-year-old victim intervened,” the release said.

Green, of Atlanta, Georgia, had left the residence, returned and allegedly shot Reynolds twice in the upper torso with a 9mm handgun, court documents show.

Officers found a gun near Green as he tried to hide from officers, court documents said. Green allegedly admitted it was the gun used to shoot Reynolds.

Police said they received a report of the shooting around 1:40 p.m. Sunday. Reynolds was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Polk County Jail records show Green is being held without bail.

It was the eighth homicide in Des Moines in 2024.
