A Newton County detention officer has been arrested after allegations of a relationship with an inmate.

The Newton County Sheriff spoke about the incident on Facebook on Wednesday.

NCSO said the officer was arrested and charged after an alleged inappropriate relationship with an inmate.

The sheriff said this was a decision made by the officer himself.

“First and foremost, the detention officer’s actions were a personal choice and not a reflection of our leadership or the values ​​we uphold at the Sheriff’s Office,” the sheriff said.

NCSO added that these actions were never tolerated in the office.

“I want to make it clear that these types of actions will not be tolerated within our office, and never have been. We adhere to the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, and any deviation from these standards will be addressed quickly and decisively,” the sheriff’s office said.
