(CBS-DETROIT) – A detroit father is facing a slew of charges in connection with the non-fatal shooting of his 2-year-old son.
Darius Daron Shantez Lacey, 25, is charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, one count of first-degree home invasion, one count of fleeing and eluding in the fourth degree. and five counts of felony firearms.
According to police, Lacey tried to enter his son’s mother’s home in the 550 block of Dickerson Avenue on Nov. 26 around 5:45 p.m. Officers patrolling the area attempted to pull Lacey over for having incorrect license plates, but he drove away from the scene.
Later that evening, around 6:30 p.m., Lacey reportedly returned to the residence. During an argument with his son’s mother, Lacey allegedly forced his way into the home and fired a gun several times, striking his son in the leg. The child was treated at a hospital in the region.
Lacey later surrendered to police on November 27.
He was arraigned Friday and given a $500,000 bond. Lacey is back in court Tuesday for a bond rescheduling hearing. He also has a probable cause conference on December 9 and a preliminary examination on December 16.
