(CBS DETROIT) – The 2024 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix returns to the streets of Detroit from May 31 to June 2.

Following the success of the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit in April, the leaders and drivers of the NTT IndyCar Series and the Detroit Grand Prix are ready to step into the spotlight.

“Seeing the track being built and these suites appearing behind us brings the whole team together,” said Michael Montri, president of the Detroit Grand Prix. “We have been making plans since last year. We’re super, super excited, and we have a lot in store for this year. It’s going to be great.

“We’ll be making some announcements in the next few days. We’ve got a nice concert at Cadillac Square. That’s going to be a lot of fun. We’re going to activate that whole Woodward corridor between Spirit Plaza and Campus Martius, so just like the drive north on Woodward, we will too. There will be a lot of fan activation at Hart Plaza and then at Woodward.”

The Comerica Bank Free Prix Day kicks off the weekend’s activities on Friday, May 31. Complimentary general admission seats for Grandstands 1 and 9 will be available on May 31. Fans can practice and qualify for the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, a signature NTT IndyCar Series session, as well as training for the NTT Indycar Series and INDY NXT series.

“I come here to drive these cars fast, and I’m the best there is,” said INDY NXT driver Myles Rowe. “There’s nothing like it, especially on a street circuit, driving an open-wheel car, 200 miles per hour straight along a front, looking at buildings. That’s why I’m here. I’m the best at it, and I’m from plan to continue to do so.”

The IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, with the INDY NXT by Firestone race and the Chevrolet IndyCar Grand Prix scheduled for Sunday, June 2.

“The biggest change is moving from Belle Isle to downtown,” said Detroit Grand Prix volunteer Deb Alrutz. “We’ve really benefited from the excitement of people remembering when they used to go with their parents and grandparents, and it’s really cool to see people excited about coming to the city of Detroit. I love that part.”
