(CBS-DETROIT) It’s not often that a Detroit Hockey fan sees some of the Red Wings’ most popular retired players take the ice, as well as Karen Newman singing the national anthem.

On Sunday afternoon, the Red Wings Alumni Association took on local veterans, frontline workers and first responders in an effort to raise money for the Living and Learning Enrichment Center.

“This event is our third and everyone loves it,” said Rachelle Vartanian, president and founder of the Living and Learning Center. “It’s been a great family event and the attendance is getting bigger and bigger every year. And all the money goes to the living and learning programs.”

The local nonprofit organization offers therapeutic, social, employment and community engagement programs to improve the lives of people with disabilities.

“It’s so great to see the community supporting us here. We work with teens and adults with autism and other types of disabilities and we love seeing people here supporting such a great cause,” says Pamela Travis, executive director of the Living and Learning organization. Center.

Between tickets, food, merchandise and the many trinkets offered for sale by members of the organization, the goal was to raise $75,000. Every cent goes to the Living and Learning Enrichment Center.
