Diamond Sports Group plans to end MLB broadcasts for 11 teams without new deals

In 2025, Diamond Sports Group will carry just one of the 12 MLB teams it televised in 2024 unless new deals are negotiated with 11 individual clubs, the broadcaster confirmed Wednesday during a bankruptcy hearing.

The Cleveland Guardians, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers saw their deals expire after the 2024 season and no new agreements could be reached between the parties. During the hearing, DSG said it wants to keep their contracts with the Atlanta Braves and reject those of the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays — although deals for the Tigers and Rays are still up for renegotiation.

The Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals are not part of the bankruptcy proceedings and cannot have their deals kept or dropped.

“Today marks a significant step forward for Diamond with the submission of a baseline plan to enable us to emerge from bankruptcy as a viable, forward-thinking company before the end of the year,” a DSG spokesperson said. in conversations with our MLB team partners about future plans. We are confident that through our linear and digital offering we have created the best economical and fan-friendly engine for all our team partners.”

All twelve teams were broadcast last season under DSG’s regional sports network brand Bally Sports.

MLB had hoped to gain clarity on DSG’s plans for 2025 and beyond, otherwise they would be within their rights to reject the company’s bankruptcy reorganization plan.

“We have no information about what is being done,” said MLB attorney Jim Bromley. according to Evan Drellich of The Athletic. “We have had no opportunity to review and now we are in court and being asked to make our comments.”

DSG filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2023.

The judge scheduled a new hearing for October 9, with a final confirmation hearing for November 14.
