A plume of smoke billowed through the air between Cambria and Cayucos on Thursday – but there’s no need to worry.
Cal Fire and California State Parks conducted a prescribed burning of grassland and coastal brush in northern San Luis Obispo County from Wednesday through Friday, according to a State Parks news release.
People driving in the area could see smoke from Highway 1, photos showed.
The burn was located on a 200-acre site in the northern portion of Harmony Headlands State Park. The park was closed during the fire.
Firefighters also burned a 250-acre patch west of Cayucos Point in Estero Bluffs State Park, but the park remained open.
Firefighters planned to ignite the fuel at about 7 a.m. each day, and any fire would be extinguished by about 5 p.m.
The purpose of the fire was to “reduce fuel loads and fire hazards, as well as improve the health of native plant communities and assist in the control of non-native, woody species,” according to the news release.
