A dog was killed and six people were displaced after a fire at a home in Union City on Thursday afternoon, according to the Alameda County Fire Department.

The fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. at a home on Hartford Drive, located in a neighborhood off Alvarado-Niles Road.

Officers arrived on scene and found the home full of smoke. Four adults and two children were there and firefighters rescued the dog, but it did not survive, fire officials said.

The American Red Cross responded to assist affected residents. According to the fire brigade, the cause of the fire is being investigated.
