Donald Trump plans a rally in Chesapeake on Friday after the presidential debate

Former President Donald Trump plans to attend a Friday rally in Chesapeake after his first debate with the president Joe Bidenaccording to Trump’s campaign website.

Trump will hold an event at the Historic Greenbrier Farms in Chesapeake, just off the Chesapeake Expressway, at 3 p.m.

First reported by The Hill, Gov. Glenn Youngkin will also be present at the rally. Earlier Friday, the Virginia House of Delegates will reconvene to discuss repealing changes to a popular military tuition voucher program. Youngkin has previously expressed support for the repeal, and Hampton Roads has a significant military population. The Virginia Senate failed to repeal the changes earlier this week.

Joe Biden won Virginia in 2020 by 10 percentage points and Chesapeake by about 7 points. However, recent polls show a close race, including a June 6 Fox News poll that showed both Biden and Trump receiving 48% of the vote in a head-to-head race. In a five-way race, Biden came out ahead with 42% to Trump’s 41%, well within the three-point margin of error.

The first debate between Biden and Trump is scheduled for Thursday at 9 p.m. in Atlanta and will be presented by CNN.
