In a recent social media clash, Mark Cuban called out Donald Trump for insulting American auto workers. Cuban, the entrepreneur and co-owner of the Dallas Mavericks, took to Twitter to criticize Trump’s comments during his interview at the Economic Club of Chicago.
Trump claimed that auto workers in America were essentially just assembling car parts “out of a box,” going so far as to say, “We could let our kid do it.”
Don’t miss:
Cuban was having none of it. In a tweet he said: “He still thinks it’s 1965. It’s clear he has no idea what it takes to produce an advanced product, car or anything else.” Cuban made it clear that Trump’s comments were completely out of touch with the realities of modern manufacturing and were a direct insult to the hardworking Americans who keep the industry running.
When Stephen Miller, a former Trump adviser, rushed to defend the former president, Cuban was quick to respond. Miller suggested that Cuban was “deceived” by a “deceptively edited clip” and argued that Trump’s comments were aimed at European automakers, not American workers.

Cuban replied, “Stephen, the Mercedes factory is in the US,” before continuing, “The workers are American. He said a child could do the work of an American worker. That’s an insult.”
Cuban wasn’t just angry about the specific comments about autoworkers. He also addressed Trump’s behavior during the interview, calling it “terrible.” According to Cuban, whenever Trump couldn’t answer a question, he insulted the interviewer, adding, “That’s something a kid can do.”

There was more back and forth. Cuban even provided extensive information via the Grok chatbot to support his claims, citing Mercedes-Benz US International (MBUSI), the company that operates Mercedes-Benz operations in Alabama.
The company has made a significant investment in this facility, which is located close to Vance, Alabama. It produces models such as the GLE and GLS, as well as electric EQS and EQE SUVs. At this factory, Mercedes-Benz applies the ‘One Man–One Engine’ philosophy for its AMG models, whereby a single technician builds an engine by hand from start to finish. This philosophy emphasizes that American workers at this plant deserve respect for their skills and contributions.

Cuban’s message was very clear: don’t accept Trump’s actions as usual, especially if it means discrediting hardworking Americans. He called on people like Stephen Miller not to excuse or justify the insults. “I know your husband often insults hardworking Americans, but don’t normalize this, Stephen,” Cuban tweeted.
Trump has a track record of opposing global trade deals and imposing tariffs to encourage homegrown manufacturing. But instead of bringing about the renaissance he often claims, his policies – such as tariffs on steel and aluminum – have been shown to hurt the US auto sector, drive up costs and even lead to factory closures.
