Double murder in Elk Grove under investigation after man and woman found dead in home

Detectives with the Elk Grove Police Department are investigating a double homicide after the bodies of a man and a woman were found by a family member in a northeast neighborhood of the city Friday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to a home in the 9000 block of Crosscourt Way about 2 p.m. Friday, said Sgt. Jason Jimenez, an Elk Grove police spokesman. The home is in the Perry Ranch neighborhood, near the intersection of Calvine and Waterman roads, a few blocks from Arthur C. Butler Elementary School and the private Merryhill School.

Jimenez said the “reporter went to their family’s home after several failed attempts to contact them.”

According to audio of the dispatch reviewed by The Sacramento Bee, the family member found a man and a woman in a garage in what an officer called “obvious signs” of a suspicious death. The victims, described by the family member as mother and father, were pronounced dead at the scene by police. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, which has not yet identified the victims, will have to determine when they died.

It was also not released how the couple was killed, but Jimenez said, “Based on the investigation, detectives are treating both deaths as homicides.”

Other family members quickly arrived on the scene, including several children belonging to at least one of the victims, reports showed, as officers and detectives quickly secured the home and began their investigation.

Police made no further comment on the incident, which was the city’s second homicide in less than two days. On Wednesday evening, a man was shot dead in a hotel parking lot during a fight.

Those with information about the deaths are encouraged to call Elk Grove investigators at 916-478-8060 or CrimeStoppers anonymously at 916-443-4357 (HELP). Elk Grove police said tips, which can also be sent via text message with the keyword “Tip732” and message to 274637 (CRIMES), could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
